I remember a few years ago, my niece @littlemissparty was starting her business in New York as a boutique style party planner. One of the most valuable things she ever taught me was the ins and outs of a wonderful “tablescape'”. Tablescaping is all about preparing an ambiance, theme and a landscape for your table and boy oh boy do I ever have a blast putting this together.
When I first started my instagram feed @thegardenofeatin, I took many, many overhead shots of my full table and the meals that I was serving. It didn’t matter if it was indoors or outside in the backyard, I still loved putting together a “set” for my plates, cutlery and of course the star of the show, THE FOOD.
After one year of posting these shots on my feed, I thought it was due time to showcase some of my favorite “scapes”. The key to designing beautiful tablescapes is simplicity. Simple plates, simple placement of food and simply beautiful flowers to enhance the ambiance of the setting. I usually pick up most of my food props from places like the local dollar store, @marshalls, @winners, @homesense and a few items are actually borrowed from friends and relatives.
Each time I “set” a tablescape, I look at the items that are laid out and really appreciate the ones that are vintage and have history behind them. A spattering of memories make a beautiful place to have a meal. Enjoy!
