A Simply Beautiful Birthday

Just want to get one thing out of the way here before I start. I’m not going to mention any numbers associated with this milestone, but instead I will be more than happy to discuss how amazing this celebration for my birthday was. K?

Okay, so let’s start off with the planning stage.

There was a lot of thought that went into this event and it started with a creation of a PINTEREST BOARD. I invited my collaborators into the secret board and starting pinning like crazy. From cakes to flowers and everything that was in-between, this board was a culmination of my dream party.

Did I change my mind a thousand times? ABSOLUTELY. But, that’s just me and I’m fine with it. At my age, I’m definitely allowed to do whatever the “F” I want to do.

Let me give you an idea of what was originally planned.

A full out catered brunch with a load of rentals.

Tables, chairs, tableware, cutlery, servers, florist, photographer……you name it. I booked it.

Then.

I cancelled everything. Yep. I did.

What I decided to do instead was host a late afternoon appetizer and sweets affair. BEST. IDEA. EVER.

With the help of my favourite event planner, who also happens to be my sweet niece Seri Kertzner (Little Miss Party), we brainstormed and put together a simply beautiful birthday bash.

My colour board included blush pinks, pale corals, raspberry and rose gold.

Seri arrived at the house at 11 a.m. and put together a stunning table garland filled with two of my favourite flowers – peonies and ranunculus. She also arranged these flowers in assorted vases that I found @homesensecanada and which were a perfect match for the theme. This was exactly the tablescape I was looking for and I was IN LOVE with it all! Thank you Seri !

Now let’s talk about the sweets. Man oh man, were they ever perfect. I asked my dear friend Joy Cantor AKA Baked with Joy, to create all the goodies including this out of control brushstroke cake for the sweet table.

Honestly? A DREAM COME TRUE. Not only was everything super gorgeous, it tasted as good as it looked.

I’m totally obsessed with her baked goods and couldn’t control myself with those rose mini cupcakes and sugar cookies!

OH, and I have to thank Joy for putting up with me and my craziness.  She didn’t even blink an eye when I walked in with a file folder complete with paint swatches and photos of the exact  styles and colours I wanted for the cookies, cake and cupcakes.

The guests indulged in an assortment of hot and cold appetizers including a large charcuterie board, sushi, spring rolls and satays. I served various wines, coolers, ice tea and bubbly to compliment the snacks. I love the grazing concept for a party and the guests really enjoyed the variety of food and drinks.

With immediate family and close friends beside me, I was surrounded with so much warmth and love to help me celebrate my birthday. That day could not have been better.

Cheers to more years of life, love and laughter.
