Two Ingredient Bagels

Have you ever made these two ingredient bagels? I’m not the original creator of this recipe but I have to tell you that once you try these you are going to agree that they are BEYOND GOOD.

I can’t believe it has taken me almost 4 years to get this recipe posted here on the blog. That’s right, 4 years!

I have loved making these bagels during Covid lockdowns because my local bakery was closed down. I was super skeptical when I first saw this recipe for two reasons:

  1. How in the world is dough made from just flour and yogurt?
  2. What would a homemade bagel recipe really taste like when I’m used to the real thing?

Well folks. Don’t be wary of this at all. Behold the most delightful way to have a freshly made bagel right in your own kitchen.

No yeast, no boiling, no fancy mixer required. Bake them in the oven or even in the air fryer! What’s the secret behind why these bagels are acceptable if you are watching calories and fat?

Fat free Greek yogurt.

Yep. It’s one of the main ingredients in the recipe and believe it or not you cannot taste the yogurt in these bagels at all

Before I share the recipe on how to make them – these are called 2 Ingredient Bagels because technically they ARE made with two main ingredients – SELF RISING FLOUR AND GREEK YOGURT.

The other ingredients you will need are toppings – an egg wash and seasonings so hopefullly you don’t think I have misled you on the recipe. Are you wondering if you can make your own self rising flour? You most certainly can.

Here’s how: For every 1 cup of all-purpose flour, add 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder and 1/4 teaspoon fine salt.t  Easy peasy. While easy to make, regular bagel recipes are a bit time consuming. The yeasted dough requires plenty of resting time (usually overnight). Then you need to  poach the bagels  in boiling water before being baked in the oven. Too many steps for me and I’m honestly the worst at making yeast doughs.

That is why this recipe is right up my alley. In less than 45 minutes, you can have hot fresh bagels ready for cream cheese, lox, butter, or whatever fillings your heart desires!

Just make these bagels. You won’t be sorry.
